From Beekeeping to Farming
Building a Second Career in Virginia's Northern Neck
After 25 years with Verizon, I was ready for a different way of life. What began as a hobby in beekeeping eventually led me into agriculture. Caring for honey bees sparked an interest in gardening, and over time that passion grew into Lakeview Apiary.
My wife and I fell in love with Virginia during our vacations here. The rural lifestyle, welcoming communities, and slightly longer growing season made Virginia's Northern Neck the perfect place to begin our next chapter. We traded suburban life in New Jersey for the chance to build something meaningful with our own hands.
Lakeview Apiary was never meant to become the biggest farm around. My goal has always been to build a small business that stays connected to the people and the land it serves. By remaining hands-on, I can focus on producing quality products while caring for healthy pollinators, improving the soil, and farming responsibly for future generations.
Whether I'm tending honey bees, harvesting vegetables, or meeting customers at a local farmers' market, I believe relationships matter. I enjoy getting to know the people who support our farm and sharing the story behind the food and honey we produce.
My hope is that when someone mentions Lakeview Apiary, the response isn't simply, "They have good honey." I hope it's, "He's a good, honest, hardworking guy who puts quality and passion ahead of profit." If we've earned that reputation, then Lakeview Apiary has become exactly what I set out to build.
